Description

Male. On an Syzygium hedge (probably S. smithii). This is the host plant of this Australian weevil. It is the only species of Emplesis present in N.Z. The genus/species is not currently imaged on Landcare's "New Zealand Weevil Images" (http://www.landcareresearch.co.nz/science/plants-animals-fungi/animals/invertebrates/systematics/weevils). This weevil can only be confused with native weevils of the genus Praolepra, and perhaps also with the Australian weevil Storeus albosignatus, on Acacia. All belong to the flower weevil tribe Storeini.
